Anna Klarare

Profile

Anna Klarare, Ph.D., MSN Ed, RN, is an Associate Professor at Boston College’s Connell School of Nursing. Her interdisciplinary research explores health equity, palliative care, healthcare education, and organizational practices to better address complex needs. Dr. Klarare is dedicated to co-produced research that centers lived experience and challenges structural inequities in health and care systems.

She has led and contributed to international research initiatives and has published on topics including gender, e-health, nursing, and caring. In addition to her scholarly work, Dr. Klarare serves as a peer reviewer and advisor within global academic and healthcare communities.

Her current projects include:

  • Simulation to Promote Clinical Reasoning and Operationalize Equitable Person-Centered Care (SIM-PCC): In collaboration with colleagues at the University of Texas at Austin, this project uses virtual reality to enhance health equity in clinical education for undergraduate nursing students.
  • Health Equity for People with Substance Use Disorder: A joint initiative with partners in Oslo, Norway, funded by the Norwegian Nurses Association. This project uses simulation-based learning to co-create healthcare interventions that improve outcomes in urban health contexts.
  • Symptom Burden and Palliative Care Referral Patterns in Patients with Malignant Brain Tumors: In partnership with Dr. Cahill at Massachusetts General Hospital, this retrospective study uses the MDASI-BT to examine service utilization and timing of palliative care referrals, laying the groundwork for future clinical research.
