When you use social channels from an official Boston College account, you are representing the 91¸£Àûµ¼º½ brand and the University. The 91¸£Àûµ¼º½ Social Media Team has created simple guidelines to follow to create usernames, avatars or profile icons, and background or cover images.

All official University accounts should utilize the profile icons provided by the Office of University Communications.

Hashtags (#) are used on most social networks - but most widely on Twitter and Instagram - as a way to explain or tag a message. They unite themes and topics and categorize information to make posts searchable.

The use of hashtags makes your posts and accounts easier to find and share, but be weary of using too many in the same post. Too many hashtags distract your audience, may look like spam and some channels, including Twitter, may even flag it as spam.

Instagram CollaborationÌýposts are mutually beneficial to the main Boston College account as well asÌýpartnering accounts, as they can increase the reach of a post and increase the amount of shared content showcasing student life around campus.

91¸£Àûµ¼º½ entities should feel empowered to add as a collaborator when posting mainly event photos and videos. If the posts meet 91¸£Àûµ¼º½'s criteria, it will most likely be accepted. It may be shared on the Instagram story and/or the content may be reused on other channels.Ìý


@bostoncollege COLLAB CRITERIA:

  • High-quality photography that is not blurry
  • Unique and original content that is not already featured on the 91¸£Àûµ¼º½â€™s account
  • No graphics and few to no wording
  • Attempt to adhere to the color scheme of 91¸£Àûµ¼º½â€™s aestheticÌýgrid (if possible)
  • Minimal hashtags in the caption (try to include #BostonCollege)
  • Content should never include other colleges’ logos
  • Reels need to have a cover photo (thumbnail). 91¸£Àûµ¼º½ Social can provide one if needed
  • Reels should not be longer than 1:30 whenever possible.
  • If there is audio, it should be captioned (use CapCut or Instagram’s auto-captioning) and be easy to understand.
  • Timely posting is important. 91¸£Àûµ¼º½ is looking to share recent events from the last week or so.
