Niurka De Jesus, MSW'16, says that the Latinx Leadership Initiative at the Boston College School of Social Work gave her the tools to thrive in the helping profession.

"The Latinx Leadership Initiative helped strengthen my leadership skills and develop confidence as a professional while inspiring me to take more initiative and collaborate to maximize my capacity to have a positive impact in my sphere of influence," she says.

Now, nearly a decade after earning her degree, De Jesus has joined 91¸£Àûµ¼º½SSW's Alumni Board, where she plans to help current students find their true calling.

In particular, De Jesus encourages students to draw on the support of their peers, professors, and colleagues as they pursue their first professional jobs. As she puts it: "Remember that you have a 91¸£Àûµ¼º½SSW network of peers, professors, and professionals that you can reach out to as you navigate your first job and beyond."
